Promote your publications in your OWN Newsstand.

Ryuzine Rack is a newsstand webapp built on the same foundation as Ryuzine Reader, but designed to act as library, store*, links page, blogroll, or promotions page on your website. With Ryuzine Rack you can provide links to promote virtually anything on the Internet in an engaging “newsstand” style webapp.

Readers can sort content by whatever media types and categories you’ve defined, manage a custom “Reading List” of items in which they’re interested, or swap out entirely different “catalogs” of content.

Ryuzine Rack also allows you to package it as a downloadable ZIP file, which can simply point to content on the web or you could also bundle an entire library of Ryuzine and PDF publications with it for offline reading and use Ryuzine Rack as the “Table of Contents” for the whole collection.

Online & Up-To-Date

When you host Ryuzine Rack on your own website it’s easy to update or add catalogs with new content. When your readers revisit your newsstand they’ll always be seeing the latest updates. Creating and editing the Ryuzine Rack catalogs is a breeze too! They are just simple HTML tables you could edit in any HTML editor, but the easiest way is with our own authoring tools:

For the stand-alone version you can use the “RackBuilder” utility in Ryuzine Writer. Navigate to this tab and you can instantly start creating or editing Ryuzine Rack Data Files in a simple interface similar to a spreadsheet. Save your data file, edit your Ryuzine Rack configuration file to point to it, make sure all the cover art is in the images folder, then package/upload your newsstand.

If you’re using Ryuzine Press on your WordPress-powered blog site it’s even easier to keep your Ryuzine Rack catalog updated – it will automatically add new Ryuzine Press Editions to your newsstand as soon as you publish them to your site! However, just like the stand-alone version, it also supports multiple catalogs and linking to other kinds of content too – the “RackBuilder” utility in the plugin’s Tools works just like the one in Ryuzine Writer, but also allows you to select cover art from your blog’s Media Library.

Plays Well With Others

xcompatible

Just like our other webapps, Ryuzine Rack is cross-browser and cross-platform.  That means you can deliver your newsstand and promotions to potential readers regardless of the device they prefer to use but you only have to mind one “store front.”

Ryuzine Rack also uses the same themes and add-ons as Ryuzine Reader. You can set it to either use the “OS Integration Themes” so it looks right at home on whatever device your readers might use, or you can create your own custom theme to integrate your newsstand into the look and feel of the rest of your website. Add-ons extend Ryuzine Rack with optional features and functions such as fancy scrolling, lightbox effects, or the ability for readers to choose the theme.

Featured Content

At the top of the first page of items Ryuzine Rack highlights your featured content in a promotion carousel. If you don’t mark any items to promote it will automatically build promotions for the most recent items (you can define how many in the configuration file). However, you can also specifically tag items you want to promote and/or create custom banner images for the carousel. During each session your readers can go to the Options Panel and choose to hide the carousel if they choose.

In addition to the carousel promotions that are part of the newsstand, Ryuzine Rack also supports adding Splash Ads, Box Ads, and a mobile-style Banner Ad just like Ryuzine Reader. So there are plenty of options within Ryuzine Rack for promoting whatever!

Make It Your Own!

It’s also easy to add your own custom branding to Ryuzine Rack.

Instead of a Splash Ad you can use a splash image that features your logo, you can change the name of the webapp from “Ryuzine Rack” to whatever you want, you can add a custom logo to the navigation bar – and that branding can be changed automatically when different catalogs are loaded, and you can replace the default webapp icons with your own (this is really easy to do with the Ryuzine Press plugin on a blog site).

Your logos and icons can also be incorporated into a custom theme. With all these options you can truly make Ryuzine Rack your own and deliver a newsstand app experience for your readers that’s consistent with your other branding and materials.

Open Source

Got some mad skills slinging web code? Ryuzine Rack is an open-source project released under the Mozilla Public License 2.0 so you can also help improve it by contributing fixes and new features. See the Download page for more details.

* Ryuzine Rack does not have any integrated e-commerce features. For use as a “store” the item is simply linked to a product page elsewhere on the Internet.
